CPAs Without Borders

​

CPAs Without Borders (CPAWB) is a non-profit organization, founded in 2013. CPAWB was founded by a group of CPAs, with the goal of using the skills of CPAs to contribute positively to the well-being of foreign communities in need.

​

CPAWB aims to, by its projects and field mandates, train and develop staff at foreign not-for profits, in fields of expertise related to the CPA profession. More specifically, in matters of financial management, governance & ethics, and sustainable development amongst other topics.

Description of the partnership between UPADI in Benin

CPAs Without Borders (CPAWB) has developed a partnership with the organization « UPADI » to embark on a series of mandates.

Mowossokpo (UGAM), the entity being served by CPAWB and UPADI, is a union of agriculture workers and producers. UGAM is structured as a co-op, that serves local co-ops within villages. UGAM was created in 2010 and currently serves 2000 local producers, across 15 bases in the Bante and Savalou areas.   

 

In December 2017, UGAM became affiliated with the organization « l’Union des Coopératives de Femmes Agricultrices et Transformatrices de manioc (UCoFAT) », as a way to include gender equality initiatives as part of UGAM’s operational strategy. UCoFAT consists of 45 female-led co-op organizations.

 

With the support of its partners, UGAM offers the following five essential services to its member organizations; Campaign pre-financing, Supplying of high-quality agricultural inputs (high-grade certified seeds, grains, etc..), Collective marketing and go-to-market services related to products such as corn, soya, rice and manioc, and Technical and agri-environmental consulting services.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT IN WHICH THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL PARTICIPATE

​

Over the past months, UGAM has been evaluating strategic options to help it become financially autonomous. Especially after the recent expiry of grant agreements which UGAM previously received. To help UGAM continue its activities, including its collective marketing and go-to-market initiatives for its co-op organizations, a strategic and financing plan was created, covering the years leading up to and ending in 2025.

 

The candidate selected for this mandate will work closely with UGAM representatives and employees, to help clarify the organization’s vision regarding achieving financial autonomy, help define a strategy in how to best employ the organization’s resources, and design an implementation plan.

Mandate​

​

Assist in developing a financial autonomy strategy, and appropriate mobilization of organization resources.

​

General objectives : 

​

This mandate aims to assist the organization and its employees in re-vamping its strategic plan. Allowing financial autonomy for the organization. 

​

Specific objectives : 

​

  • Strength the organization’s financial autonomy and improving its processes related to resource management.

  • Define a strategy for the organization to achieve financial autonomy.

  • Design an action plan / implementation plan to put into effect the findings and recommendations resulting from 1 and 2 above.

  • Update and improve administrative and financial / operational policies and procedures at the organization.

DESCRIPTION OF THE TASKS TO BE PERFORMED BY THE CANDIDATE

The candidate will assist UGAM in;

​

  • Teach UGAM representatives and employees, strengthening their capabilities in financial autonomy and resource management. 

  • Clarify the organization’s vision related to financial autonomy and resource management.

  • Define a strategy for the organization to achieve financial autonomy.

  • Design an action plan / implementation plan to put into effect the findings and recommendations from field-work, with the ultimate goal of helping the organization achieve financial autonomy and improve its resource management.

  • Draft a report summarizing the mandate.

REQUIREMENTS AND REQUIRED SKILLS

Certification

​

  • CPA Member

  • CPAWB Member

​

Work experience

​

  • Experience in project management

  • Experience in team management

  • Management experience in a not-for-profit (an asset)

  • Experience leading a project related to an accounting practice diagnosis

​

Skills

​

  • Sense of coordination and leadership

  • Capacity for analysis and synthesis

  • Ability to transfer knowledge

  • Good communication skills

​

Language

​

  • French and English both orally and in writing.

​
